Water Extraction and Carpet Drying

Did a washing machine hose let go, a water heater start to leak, or a spill soak right through the carpet? Pronto & Carpet comes to your home or business in Charlotte to extract the water and dry the carpet, so it can get back to being a floor you can walk on.

We schedule water extraction and carpet drying by appointment. Call 704.258.9790, tell us what happened, and we'll check availability and explain what to expect. We'll also tell you honestly whether your carpet can be saved, and if the problem is bigger than carpet, we'll say so.

What water extraction and carpet drying means

Water extraction is pulling standing and trapped water out of wet carpet. Carpet drying is what comes next: moving air and removing moisture so the carpet, and the pad under it, dry completely instead of staying damp for days. Doing both well decides whether the carpet stays fresh or starts to smell musty, which is why we treat them as one service.

Leaks, overflows and spills we can help with

This service is for water that has soaked into carpet in a home or a business, such as:

  • a washing machine or dishwasher that overflowed
  • a water heater that leaked
  • a dripping pipe or supply line under a sink
  • a toilet or tub that ran over
  • a spill that soaked through to the pad
  • rain that blew in through an open window or door

What is included

  • a walk through the affected area, so we can see where the water went and how far it spread
  • extraction of the standing and trapped water from the carpet
  • drying with air movers and a dehumidifier
  • deodorizing when the carpet needs it
  • an honest opinion on whether the carpet and pad can be saved
  • clear instructions for what to do while everything dries

How a visit works

  1. You call and tell us what happened. We ask a few questions about the water and the room, check availability and set an appointment.
  2. We look it over. We check how far the water spread, how wet the carpet is and whether the pad is soaked through.
  3. We extract the water. A professional extraction tool pulls the standing and trapped water out of the carpet.
  4. We set up drying. Air movers keep air moving across the carpet and a dehumidifier takes moisture out of the room, and we explain how long to expect it to take.
  5. We deodorize if needed. Damp carpet can develop a musty smell, and an enzyme treatment goes after the source of the odor instead of covering it.
  6. We tell you what we found. You hear plainly whether the carpet is likely to be fine, whether the pad should be replaced and what to watch for in the days ahead.

Can my carpet be saved?

Often it can. Carpet that took on clean water, from a supply line or an appliance overflow for example, and was extracted and dried properly usually comes through well. What decides it is how much water there was, how long the carpet stayed wet and whether the pad is soaked. Carpet that has stayed wet for days, or that took on contaminated water such as a sewage backup, usually cannot be saved, and the pad is often the first thing to go. We look before we promise anything, and if replacing the pad or the carpet is the better choice, we tell you.

What you can do before we arrive

Stop the water at its source if you can, whether that means closing a valve, turning off the washing machine or catching a drip with a bucket. Keep the room ventilated and the air conditioning running, and keep people and pets off the wet carpet. Do not run a household vacuum over it. If small furniture is sitting in the water, lift it onto blocks or foil so the legs do not stain the carpet, and move electronics and loose items out of the way. It also helps to note where the water came from and when it started, so we can plan the visit.

Homes and businesses

The same service is available for carpet in an office, a store or another business. Tell us about the space and what happened, and we will confirm availability with you.

What we do not handle

We specialize in leaks, overflows, small floods and spills on carpet. A large flood, wet walls or subfloors, and structural drying are jobs for a full restoration company. If that is what you need, we will say so rather than start a job we cannot finish.

WATER EXTRACTION & CARPET DRYING

We work by appointment rather than as a round-the-clock response service. Call 704.258.9790, tell us what happened, and we will check availability and give you a time. While you wait, shut off the water at its source if you can and keep the area ventilated. If water is still spreading or you need help right away, a full restoration company is the better call.
Often, yes, especially when the water was clean, such as an appliance overflow or a supply-line leak, and the carpet is extracted and dried properly. It depends on how much water there was, how long the carpet stayed wet and whether the pad underneath is soaked. Carpet that has been wet for days, or that took on contaminated water such as a sewage backup, usually cannot be saved. We look first and tell you honestly, including when replacing the pad or the carpet is the better choice.
It depends on how much water was in the carpet, how thick the pad is and how humid the air is. With air movers and a dehumidifier running, many carpets dry in about one to three days. We explain what to expect during the visit and what you can do to help, such as keeping the air conditioning on and keeping furniture off the damp areas.
We look over the affected area, extract the standing and trapped water from the carpet, set up drying equipment, deodorize if the carpet needs it, and talk through what to expect and whether anything else needs attention, such as the pad. We do the work in your home or business, by appointment.
We handle leaks, appliance overflows, small floods and spills on carpet. We do not handle major flooding, drying of walls and subfloors, or insurance claims. For those, a full restoration company is the right call, and we will tell you if that is what your situation needs.
